Ft. Carson soldiers give to those in need for Operation Happy Holidays
Hundreds of Fort Carson soldiers with the Raider Brigade got donations together to give to those in need Friday morning.
They gathered at Dorchester Park and marched to the Marian House.
Soldiers said marching through town allows them to walk in the shoes of many of those who they are helping.
Once the soldiers got the Marian House, they piled up all of their donations and people lined up to get what they need.
Donations included food, blankets, clothing and toys. Soldiers said they collected everything from their own homes as well as friends and neighbors.
Cpt. Rebecca Waterman said she and her husband have opted to give during the holiday season rather than buy presents for each other.
She gave away a blanket that she used in Afghanistan during deployment. Waterman said it helped keep her warm and now she hopes it will help someone else.
Families who picked up donations said they were grateful to see the soldiers. They said the soldiers give so much serving our country year-around on deployments and at home.
Soldiers with the Raider Brigade are scheduled to deploy early next year.
