Burglar attempts break-in, fights family at front door
A family is startled out of their beds Friday morning when a man attempts to break-in.
“All of a sudden, I hear the gate smash open,” said Anthony Lucero. Anthony was sleeping in the front bedroom and heard the burglar first.
The man, identified by police as Brant Miller Weeden,41, broke a glass pane on their front door and reached inside and unlocked their deadbolt.
As he was attempting to open the door, Anthony said he rushed to push it shut. Fortunately, his dad Robert wasn’t far behind.
The two then used their combined body weight to keep their front door closed and Weeden out.
But, the Luceros said he wasn’t given up that easily.
“This guy was screaming and cussing at us,” said Anthony.
“What did we do to you sir … I don’t understand,” described Robert.
Inside the house, another family member called police.
Finally, just before officers arrived, Weeden bolted. Police said he was spotted a few blocks away with assistance from their canine unit.
Weeden was arrested on charges of criminal attempt second-degree burglary and transported to jail.
