Overnight standoff ends in Springs

An overnight standoff in Colorado Springs ended early Tuesday morning when the suspect apparently took his own life.

Police tell us they got a call around 5:30 p.m. Monday that a man wanted on several felony warrants was at a townhome near Circle and Verde Drives.

When police arrived at the Fountain Plaza Townhomes and made contact with the suspect they called in the tactical team, said police.

The residents in adjoining townhomes had to be evacuated. Police tell KRDO Newschannel 13 about 20 people were forced from their homes during the standoff. Residents were allowed back home Tuesday morning.

The standoff with police lasted throughout the night, ending shortly before 3 a.m.

Police say the suspect took his own life. Police are not releasing any more details until the family has been notified.

Neighbors said the scene was “nerve-racking” and they heard shots being fired around 1:30 a.m.
