Colorado Springs Firefighters respond to grass fire near Monument
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Multiple fire crews responded to the scene of a reported grass fire near I-25 and Interquest Friday afternoon.
Update:
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. between the Great Wolf Lodge and a new neighborhood development.
In all, 17 firefighters and nearly a dozen trucks arrived with both hoses and hand tools. Some attacked the fire while others focused on protecting nearby homes under construction.
The fire only burned about half an acre of grass and brush and was fully contained by 4:54 p.m. However, crews remained at the scene for hours making sure it didn't flare up again.
It's unclear what started the grass fire.

According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, the brush fire is off Ridgeline and Sword Dancer Drive.

At this time no structures are threatened. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
As of 4 p.m., CSFD says the fire is about a quarter of an acre and moving fast in light fuels.
A video shard with KRDO showed the flames and heavy smoke crews first encountered when they arrived.
