7 Homes, Hog Farm Destroyed In Colorado Tornadoes
Four tornadoes with preliminary ratings of EF1 and EF2 ripped through southeastern Colorado early Friday.
The state emergency management division says tornadoes were reported in Prowers, Kiowa and Bent counties.
In Kiowa County, six structure were impacted — four of them destroyed. One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries but has been released. An agreement was made with local motels in Kiowa County to provide rooms to those in need. The American Red Cross is also helping two families.
Power has been restored to Eads. Haswell, Chivington, Brandon, and Sheridan Lake are expected to get power back by late Friday night.
In Bent County, three structures were impacted including an agricultural equipment building. Power is currently out in the Hasty/McClave area and there is no estimate for restoration.
In Prowers County, two buildings were destroyed. A Pig Farm south of Lamar west of Highway 287 is reporting 18 buildings destroyed on the farm. The buildings were not occupied with swine at the time. Two people were transported to the hospital, treated, and later released.
Currently power is out in the Lamar area with an anticipated restoration time of late tonight.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says vehicles are having trouble finding gas. CDOT is warning travelers to buy gas before getting to Lamar because without power all the gas stations are closed.
