Arrest Made For Incendiary Devices Found At TCA
Colorado Springs Police confirm to us that suspicious items found at The Classical Academy’s North Campus on Thursday morning are incendiary.
An administrator spotted two suspicious items around 7:45 a.m. near the modular classrooms at the northwest corner of campus. Those classrooms hold 300 elementary students. The students were move to the gym and are safe.
The devices were moved to a nearby wooden area. CSPD’s bomb squad examined the packages and determined they were incendiary. Instead of destroying them, they rendered them harmless to use as evidence.
A juvenile was questioned and ultimately arrested on Thursday afternoon. KRDO has learned that the suspect is a high school student at The Classical Academy. His charges include: Possession /Use or Removal of an Explosive or Incendiary Device {Class 4 Felony} and Interference with Staff or Students of an Educational Facility. Because he is a juvenile, his name is not being released.
TCA sent an e-mail to notify parents on Thursday morning. The following is the e-mail from the school:
“First, be assured that all North Campus students are safe, secure, and currently attending classes. A suspicious device was found at TCA North Campus. The affected area is cordoned off and five modular classrooms have been evacuated. The Colorado Springs Police and Fire Departments, as well as D-20 Security Personnel, are on site and further expertise will arrive soon. Every precaution is being taken for the safety and security of your children. We will keep you updated as the day progresses. Midday student pick-up at North will be rerouted.”
Investigators haven’t given us specifics of what type of incendiaries were discovered in the two packages.
