Letecia Stauch files letter claiming abuse and violation of rights

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Letecia Stauch, who is charged with the murder of her 11-year-old stepson Gannon Stauch, is claiming that her rights are being violated while waiting in jail.

On August 12, she wrote a four-page letter to the judge overseeing her case. Stauch claimed mistreatment, physical threats, violations of her constitutional rights, and abuse.

"Over 15 plus times I have been abused," she wrote, citing a list of injuries including her ribs, knots on her head, bruises, and bleeding of her ankles and wrists. Stauch claims she also received "threats in [her] peanut butter," and says she fears for her safety "not just from inmates but from [jail] employees."

Stauch reported Gannon missing from his Colorado Springs home on January 27, telling police that he never returned home after playing with his friends.

An investigation and extensive search lasting several weeks ultimately ended on March 2 with Stauch's arrest in South Carolina. According to the arrest affidavit, investigators believe Gannon was murdered in his bedroom sometime in the afternoon of January 27. Gannon's remains were found later in the month of March in Florida.

Stauch is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, tampering with a dead human body, and tampering with physical evidence. She's currently being held in the El Paso County Jail.
