Runners line up in Manitou Springs

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- As runners prepare for a grueling marathon up and down Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs is preparing for a slightly scaled back event weekend.

The Pikes Peak Marathon is taking place Sunday, but there's no Ascent race and many post-race events were canceled or reduced to ensure social distancing.

In previous years, Memorial Park in Manitou Springs would play host to sponsor booths and pre-race festivities, with many participants mingling with spectators. This year, however, crowds are expected to be lighter due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of the Ascent.

The Manitou Incline is going to be closed on Sunday, and no reservations will be accepted. The Barr Trail will only be accessible to participants in the Pikes Peak Marathon.

Parking is expected to be very limited in Manitou Springs, but you can find information here.

Masks are mandatory in Manitou Springs if you're within six feet of other people. Restaurants and shops are open along the main drag of Manitou Ave., but be aware of road closures and limited foot traffic at Ruxton Ave.
