Why haven’t I received my stimulus payment?
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - With Congress discussing a second round of stimulus payments, those who haven't even received the first stimulus payment are scratching their heads.
Here's what you should do if you haven't even received the first stimulus payment:
First, double-check you have even qualified for the government payment. You can check the eligibility requirements here.
If you do qualify, then go through your mail. The payment may have been sent as a debit card.
The debit cards will be sent in plain envelopes from Money Network Cardholder Services.
The IRS can Get My Payment page can help you track your payment whether it's going though direct deposit or getting mailed to you.
If you have been notified that your payment has been sent and you still haven't seen the money, you can request a payment trace. The average time for a payment trace is six weeks.
"I filed my 2019 taxes in May and still haven't heard anything."
With the tax deadline extended to July this year, many people filed their taxes this spring and have yet to hear from the IRS.
There are a few different ways to check your return status.
The IRS has set-up a Where's My Refund page on their website. There is also an IRS2Go app that allows you to track your returns and refunds on your phone.
You can also call the IRS at:
- For the tax helpline, call 1-800-829-1040 or visit your local IRS office.
- For tax law and account questions, call 1-800-829-1040
- For business and specialty tax questions, call 1-800-829-4933
- To order tax forms and publications, call 1-800-829-3676
At this time the IRS has limited staffing - so if you mailed a paper return, expect delays.
Refunds are generally issued 21 days of when you electronically file taxes or 42 days when you file paper returns.
