Fire restrictions cancel fireworks in Pueblo during 4th of July
PUEBLO, Colo (KRDO) -- The City of Pueblo is enacting a Stage 1 fire restriction to prevent wildfires.
Pueblo Fire Chief Barb Huber says the region is in a severe drought status, with extreme fire weather conditions for the foreseeable future.
Stage 1 fire restrictions are banning the sale and use of consumer fireworks throughout the duration of the guideline.
“Making this determination is not taken lightly, but in the interest of public safety, fireworks will not be part of this year’s Independence Day holiday,” Huber said. “We ask our citizens to consider all of our current extraordinary circumstances, including the continued spread of the coronavirus, while making plans this summer.”
The Pueblo Fire Department says the fire restrictions within city limits already mirrors the restrictions in place for the rest of the county.
If fire conditions improve significantly throughout the summer, the fire chief says these restrictions could be lifted.
El Paso County also has Stage 1 fire restrictions in place due to hot and dry weather conditions that make fireworks more dangerous during wildfire season.
