Fremont County Sheriff’s Office hosts training to avoid use of force

CAÑON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) - Deputies from all across southern Colorado learned how to interact with people who might be mentally unstable without force during Critical Incident Training in Cañon City over the last week.

The program was set up by the Central Mountain Training Region -- made up of deputies from Fremont, Park and El Paso County. It included 15 hours of classes and 25 hours practicing scenarios with actors.

NewsChannel 13's Julia Donovan talked to Fremont County Sheriff Allen Cooper as the training wrapped up Friday about the skills it provides, and why he says it's so important.
