Colorado Springs Police on priority dispatch, accident alert status Sunday due to more planned protests

colorado springs protest sunday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- After peaceful protests Saturday turned violent, and with another protest planned downtown Sunday, the Colorado Springs Police Department says it's advising the public to hold off on calling police for non-emergency issues. CSPD is also on accident alert status, meaning that if both drivers are uninjured in a crash they should exchange information.

The priority dispatch status will run at least through Sunday, said CSPD. For non-life threatening matters, the public is asked to wait to make a report until the department returns to normal operations.

Police didn't say when they expect the priority dispatch status to expire.

The protest Sunday is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wahsatch Avenue outside the U.S. District Court Magistrate, according to its Facebook page.

On the Facebook page, protest organizers say it's intended to be a peaceful protest.
