WATCH: Demonstrators gather in Denver following arrest in George Floyd’s death
DENVER (KRDO) -- A day after violent protests rocked several U.S. cities, including Denver, following the death of a Minneapolis man in police custody, demonstrators were back in the Mile High City Friday to raise awareness.
WATCH:
The protesters began gathering shortly before noon as Mayor Michael Hancock decried the violence of Thursday night's protests and encouraged people to focus on the message of raising awareness of Floyd's death.
Floyd was killed in police custody and a video surfaced showing a police officer kneeling on his neck for several minutes. The officer, Derek Chauvin, has been fired and arrested for the death.
Protesters began gathering at the capitol before marching through downtown Denver, including the 16th Street Mall, and then returning to the capitol. At about 1:30 p.m., the group left the capitol again in another march that ended at Civic Center Park.
