Remembering Kendrick Castillo on the STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting anniversary
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (KRDO) -- Many call 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo, the lone student killed in the shooting at the STEM School Highlands Ranch, a hero.
He risked his life to save the lives of his classmates.
Thursday marks one year since Castillo lunged at one of the shooting suspects in the attack at STEM School in Highlands Ranch, ultimately bringing them down with the help of other classmates.
On Thursday morning, Kendrick’s father, John Castillo, sent out this tweet.
There will be a prayer service held Thursday at 2 p.m. on the “In Honor of a Hero: Kendrick Castillo” Facebook page.
His parents originally planned for a larger memorial at the steps of the Capitol, but because of COVID-19 had to scale back and instead honor their son in a virtual service.
