A Facebook page is helping high school seniors get ‘adopted’

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- Yes, Rhonda Chozinski 'adopted' Kam Francis, a senior at Sand Creek High School, thanks to a Facebook group page called Colorado Springs Adopt a High School Senior.

"As I was paging down I noticed a senior from Sand Creek and I said I'm gonna do it. So I adopted Kameron," said Sand Creek high school teacher, Rhonda Chozinski. Not only did she 'adopt' Kameron, but she surprised him with a goodie bag -- twice.

The second time with an autograph picture of his favorite football player, Troy Polamula.

"I picked it out and it just instantly hit me. I was emotional," said Sand Creek senior, Kameron Francis.

"When he opened it he started crying. That just touched me so much that a little gesture could make somebody's day so bright," said Chozinski.

Kam's story is amazing considering that his mother was working in one of the twin towers in New York City in 2001. During that time Melissa was pregnant with Kam, she was put on bed rest weeks before 9/11 because she's a type one diabetic and was high risk.

"I had miscarried a few times. Then he was premature. He came early so he was only four pounds, six ounces when I had him. Around the time that the towers were hit, would of been the time that I would of been there. Indirectly he saved my life," says Kameron's mother, Melissa Hussey.

So you can understand why a loving mother has so much gratitude for his adopted mother and for her displays of humanity toward her son.

"For her to just come out and do something so special there's good in people," said Hussey.

"The fact they are doing this brings hope into the world," said Francis.
