Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run crash in Pueblo
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - A woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Pueblo.
According to Pueblo Police, Alisia Martinez, 37, was arrested Wednesday night. She faces charges of failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving death, and failing to notify police of an accident involving death.
A 65-year-old man was hit and killed by a car Wednesday night, while crossing in a crosswalk on Prairie Ave. Thursday, he was identified as Steven Kleinheim.
Police say the victim was struck by a white, two-door vehicle traveling northbound on Prairie. The driver did not stop.
However, police believe the victim didn't have the right of way. Sgt. Shelly Taylor tells KRDO there are two seperate surveillance videos showing the scene. According to one of the videos, Kleinheim can be show crossing the intersection of Tulane and Prairie Boulevard while the traffic still had a green light.
After her arrest, Sgt. Taylor says Martinez told police she was afraid after she struck Kleinheim, and drove off in fear. She told investigators she planned on turing herself in.
Because Martinez fled the scene, she is looking at two felony charges, failure to remain at the scene and give information (Felony 3) and failure to notify police of an accident involving death (Felony 2).
