Delivery drivers in Colorado Springs say work ‘has doubled’
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- In the midst of the Coronavirus outbreak, more people are turning to online shopping for their needs, which in turn is causing more work for local delivery drivers.
Travis Brown, a driver for FedEx, says his work "has doubled," but his interactions with customers are changing.
He said he's making, "about 170 to 180 stops a day now, and a majority of it is perishables or medicine to get to the elderly homes and people that need medicine for dogs or whatever it may be."
Some are worried Brown or the packages he's delivering are carrying the virus, so he's taken it upon himself to take extra precaution.
"We're dealing with an invisible enemy so I don't want to bring that into an elderly home knowing that I come into contact with 100 plus customers every day."
He's changing his uniform more often, wiping down the inside of truck every few stops, and spraying his boxes with a disinfectant.
Brown hopes his extra steps mean his deliveries or customer interactions won't cost someone their life.
