Dozens of flights canceled out of Colo. Springs, more than 450 canceled out of DIA
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Airport has canceled 33 flights, as of 3:30 p.m. Friday according to Flight Aware.
According to airport officials, crews have been working 12-hour shifts since Tuesday as they try to clear snow and ice from tarmacs.
"We're looking to make sure that the surfaces are clear and that they're safe to land on," said Aidan Ryan with the Colorado Springs Airport. "So that has to do with checking surface temperature, friction, making sure there is not too much water, snow, anything. It's all about aircraft safety."
Heavy snow is expected to continue into the evening, and adding to travel complications are several highway closures.
Those who are trying to take local highways to the airport are encouraged to check CDOT's current map of closures.
Meanwhile, the Denver International Airport is facing significant delays and cancellations. As of publication, Flight Aware reports there were 699 delays and 481 cancellations at the airport Friday.
Denver is at the heart of Flight Aware's so-called "Misery Map," currently facing the most delays and cancellations nationwide.
