Fire on Fort Carson grows to 35 acres

The fire burning east of Camp Red Devil on Fort Carson has grown to 35 acres as of Friday morning, according to officials with the post.

Firefighters are still working on setting up a buffer zone around the fire, but there’s no word on how much of the fire has been contained. The fire started Thursday and is burning in rough terrain, no buildings are currently threatened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Fort Carson officials told us that no training was happening in the area Thursday.

Wildland Fire Management helped with firefighting efforts on Fort Carson Thursday.

The fire is located on the far south end and east of Camp Red Devil. First estimates show that the fire is approximately 15 to 25 acres.

The fire is burning in rough terrain. Air resources and two more hotshot crews have been requested.

According to El Paso County Wildland Fire, the crews were mutual aid to the fire on Fort Carson.
