Minor league baseball team will not become the Humpback Chubs
The humpback chub is a fish native to the Colorado River.
It was also one man’s inspiration in his quest to rename a minor league baseball team, the Grand Junction Rockies, to the Grand Junction Humpback Chubs.
When he tweeted at the Grand Junction Rockies with his proposal, they were very firm in their public denouncement of the suggestion.
Yet the humpback chub movement remains strong, and has inspired several satirical Twitter accounts.
A similar public debate happened in Colorado Springs in July 2018 when the Rocky Mountain Vibes minor league team was nearly renamed the Rocky Mountain Oysters, after the frontier’s signature beef dish.
