Two high schools in El Paso County raise money for a little girl with a big wish
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO)- Two El Paso County schools are uniting to raise funds for a young girl battling Cystic Fibrosis. It's an effort by Lewis Palmer and Harrison High Schools.
There was a ton of excitement at Lewis-Palmer as students have raised over eight thousand dollars of the ten thousand dollar Make-A-Wish goal.
They're raising the money for Rylee, who's four years old and living with cystic fibrosis. Riley spends much of her time in the hospital getting treatment, but she dreams of going to Disney World. The funds raised this week from the schools will make that happen.
Rylee could not make it to the assembly, so instead, the students turned on their flashlights and sent a video singing her favorite song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
The assembly also included performances from the pom and cheer teams and a lip sync battle; some kids even shaved their heads for the cause.
Students also enjoyed smashing pies in their teacher's face to raise money.
"It's such a unifying feeling. Our school all comes together in positivity and just great camaraderie to make this week the best week for Riley and the best week for Make-A-Wish, Colorado that we can put on," says Lily Poteet, Lewis-High Student Body President.
Harrison High School's assembly will begin at 2 p.m. today to help reach that ten-thousand goal.
