Gov. Jared Polis reacts to shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch
The act of terror at STEM School Highlands Ranch has left people speechless and confused. Now, Gov. Jared Polis is speaking out about this horrible act hoping to provide hope and encouragement.
“The past 24 hours have been very difficult, for Douglas County, Colorado,” said Gov. Polis. “We learned that a students life was taken to soon by this vicious act of violence,”.
Gov. Polis speaking this morning at a press conference reacting to the shooting that happened at the Stem School located just South of Denver. Polis first starting his speech by thanking first responders.
Polis said, “Police, medical, ambulances, school staff, parental reunification team. A lot of people stepped up.”
Gov. Polis would continue saying as a father of two young children he can hardly imagine the horror, emphasizing that schools should be a place for learning, not fear.
“We shouldn’t have to worry about being marched out, airlifted to hospitals or losing one’s life in a place that’s supposed to be a safe place for all students.”
And District Attorney George Brauchler is doubling down on this, saying he has children of his own and his heart goes out to those that are suffering.
“Moms and Dads looking at each other making decisions about whether or not to send their kids to school in one of the greatest school districts in the country because they don’t feel safe. That’s the dad talking to you, we are having those conversations at home too,” said Brauchler.
As for the victims, three remained in intensive care Wednesday. The one who died, Kendrick Castillo, was only three days away from graduating. Governor Polis says he is frustrated, shocked and sick over what happened.
