Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Storms East – 5/4/19
Today: We expect a partly cloudy day with slightly warmer afternoon temperatures and a chance for a few sprinkles over and near the mountains this afternoon. The wind should remain pretty light except around any sprinkles/showers that develop and cause the wind to get cooler and gusty temporarily. Farther east a couple of strong to severe thunderstorms could develop this afternoon with large hail over 1″ in diameter and damaging wind gusts to near 60 mph possible. The best chance for stronger storms will exist mainly east of a line along Colorado Highway 71 from Limon to La Junta. We expect high temperatures to reach the 60s and 70s for the plains with 50s and 60s over the mountains.
Tonight: Any evening showers and thunderstorms will end, then decreasing clouds with low temperatures falling into the 40s for the plains, mainly 30s over the mountains.
Sunday: Partly cloudy with spotty sprinkles or showers possibly developing again over and near the mountains late. Like Saturday, it’s possible that isolated, stronger storms will develop farther east, but storms Sunday afternoon will probably be confined to those counties right along the Kansas state line. We expect temperatures to warm into the 70s to lower 80s for the plains on Sunday with mainly 60s over our local mountain areas.
Extended: Monday should remain dry and pretty warm for most of us, but by late in the day a cold front may cause some thunderstorms to develop over mainly northern and eastern parts of our coverage area. Should storms develop late Monday they could be strong to severe. Colder air will then settle in for the rest of the work week with periods of low cloud cover and patchy fog, occasional rain showers, generally weak thunderstorms and even a little wet snow over the mountains. High temperatures Tuesday through Thursday will hover in the 50s and 60s for lower elevations on the plains with only 40s and 50s for the higher terrain along and west of I-25. Friday and Saturday should start to warm a little but we may still have spotty showers and thunderstorms around during the afternoon hours.
