High-speed chase ends near Colorado City

A high-speed chase in Pueblo ends with a suspect caught after crashing in a stolen state patrol cruiser.

Colorado State Patrol says it began when one of their troopers pulled the suspect, Richard Twomey, over for driving the wrong way on southbound I-25 near mile marker 105. The Twomey managed to get into the trooper’s cruiser. The trooper tried to stop him but the suspect slammed the door on the trooper’s hand and dragged him for a short distance before taking off.

According to CSP, Twomey reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, heading south on I-25. Pueblo Police and the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office were also called in to help.

Just south of Colorado City, Twomey crashed and rolled the cruiser from the southbound lane into the northbound lane. Twomey ran away before finally being caught. There are no reports of serious injuries.

Twomey, who’s from California, has been booked into the Pueblo County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
