Previous story
Colorado Springs police officers were involved in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in the southeast side of town.
CSPD confirmed the incident is under investigation near Hancock Expressway and Durango Drive. (MAP)
A spokesperson said two officers were called to an apartment at Arbor Point for a disturbance, and at least one shot was fired during some sort of altercation.
A suspect was taken to the hospital, but no other injuries have been reported at this time.
At the same time, a fire was reported in the area in a third-story apartment. The fire was contained to that one apartment and was extinguished in about 10 minutes, but nearby residents had to be evacuated due to the investigation. The call came in to dispatch after the shot was fired, and a spokesman for CSPD said the incident and the fire occurred in the same residence. CSFD is still investigating the cause of the fire.
An entire wing of the Arbor Pointe complex is being shut down by the Colorado Springs Fire Department. All three stories on the North side of the south building will be shut down. The American Red Cross has been called in to provide shelter to those evacuated. CSFD estimates about 70 people will be displaced.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and will be in the area for at least several hours Wednesday evening.
We have a crew at the scene, we’ll update this article when more information is available.
