Officer-involved shooting sends one man to the hospital in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - An officer-involved shooting sent one man to the hospital early Saturday morning. It took place just after 4 a.m. near the intersection of North Powers Blvd. and Constitution Ave.
The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office located a stolen vehicle, Saturday morning, they believe was involved in other violent crimes.
The vehicle was found in the 5900 block of Constitution Ave. As officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, the suspect inside drove off.
CSPD says they forcibly stopped the vehicle. Shortly after, they say a man got out of the vehicle holding a gun. At this point, an officer with CSPD fired at least one shot at him.
The man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say other occupants got out of the vehicle and tried to run, but were taken into custody a short distance away.
No other injuries were reported in this incident, and police say there is no threat to the public.
The northwest entrance to the shopping center, near the intersection of North Powers Blvd. and Constitution Ave., will be closed for the next several hours as law enforcement investigates.
