Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Windy With Ski Resort Snow – 11/24/18

Today: While heavy snow and blowing snow will make a mess of travel over the ski resorts today we expect wind to be the main story over eastern Colorado for most of the day. The wind will increase to 15 to 25 mph with occasional gusts between 30 and 50 mph likely for Colorado Springs and Pueblo this afternoon. The possibility for occasional wind gusts to near 60 mph has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a High Wind Warning for much of eastern Colorado for later today into tonight. The air will actually warm quite nicely at lower elevations where high temperatures will reach the 50s and 60s early this afternoon with our local mountain areas warming into the 40s to near 50. By mid-afternoon a strong cold front will be racing south along the I-25 corridor and we expect sharply falling temperatures from north to south mid to late afternoon. As the cold front rolls over the area some areas may receive a quick burst of snow with a quick inch or so possible over mainly the Pikes Peak Region, still others may notice a few rain showers briefly.

Tonight: Still windy this evening with spotty snow showers possible over eastern Colorado through about midnight, then decreasing clouds and wind through morning. We do not expect any widespread, heavy snowfall over eastern Colorado tonight but spotty areas could receive a quick inch or so. By morning the plains will have cooled into the 20s with most of our mountain areas in the teens.

Extended: Sunday looks mostly sunny and colder with high temperatures in the 30s to lower 40s for most areas but it won’t be nearly as windy. We expect a warming trend to start early next week with high temperatures reaching the 50s for Colorado Springs and Pueblo by Tuesday. Wednesday looks windy and warm with increasing clouds and high temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Thursday looks colder but dry. There are some suggestions that a storm will move over the region by next weekend but right now it’s tough to know if we should expect any snow.
