FBI arrests Return to Nature Funeral Home owners on federal warrant tied to running from prosecution in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed to KRDO 13 Investigates that Jon and Carie Hallford, the owners of the Return to Nature Funeral Homes in Penrose and Colorado Springs, were arrested on a federal warrant tied to "Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution."

According to federal court records, there is no active federal prosecution against the Hallfords. However, a judge did sign off on the warrant for their arrest. KRDO 13 Investigates confirmed that they were taken into custody in a multi-agency effort, including by the U.S. Marshals from the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office says the Hallfords were arrested on suspicion of committing four felony state crimes in the state of Colorado: Abuse of a Corpse, Forgery, Theft, and Money Laundering. These charges are separate from the federal warrant issued for allegedly crossing state lines to avoid being prosecuted.

KRDO 13 Investigates has previously reported on the Hallford's extensive ties to the state of Oklahoma, including court records that reveal they were in dire financial straits in the state.

You can read about those court records here.

KRDO 13 Investigates is working to gather more information on how this federal warrant impacts their extradition process to Colorado for their pending state charges.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
