According to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, the four pups were rescued and were taken to a veterinary clinic for additional treatment. A fifth puppy was found dead inside the trash can.

Police followed up on several leads but couldn’t identify any suspects.

The Humane Society got 60 applications to adopt the puppies and chose four families from a lottery.

Friday, three of the four puppies were reunited and their new families met each other at Highland Heritage Park.
