Shelter-in-place lifted for 3000 block of E. Fountain Blvd.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A shelter-in-place was lifted this afternoon after Colorado Springs Police were able to take a man into custody after a lengthy standoff.
Colorado Springs Police were trying to speak to a man with a warrant at a gas station this morning when he ran away from police to an apartment complex near Fountain and Chelton. That man has been identified as Jesus Barajas.
Police say he barricaded himself inside an apartment which prompted a shelter in place in the area. A tactical unit also arrived at the scene to help. Several hours later the suspect turned himself in and police arrested the suspect.
Police now say the tactical unit was key in ending the situation without anyone getting hurt.
"Our tactical team just has a lot more tools available than our average patrol officer does, and what you saw was a really great example of how all those tools can help bring a peaceful resolution," said CSPD information officer Caitlyn Ford.
Barajas was wanted for felony possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
