Colorado Rockies show off renderings of new, larger scoreboard

The Colorado Rockies have more reason to celebrate the club’s 25th anniversary season with the unveiling of a new scoreboard at Coors Field in Denver.

The Rockies made the announcement Wednesday that the new board will be ready to go for Opening Day on April 6. The scoreboard is situated above left-center field.

It’s more than two-and-a-half times the size of the team’s old scoreboard, and at 8,369 square feet, it’s the equivalent of 784 60-inch televisions put together.

But aside from the better view, the shape of the scoreboard features a mountain cutout at the top. The display stretches to every edge and can either do full-screen video or video with sections for statistics.

The team says their next phase of stadium enhancements includes speaker enhancements focusing on the lower bowl of the park.

According to a news release, the scoreboard was funded by the club, pursuant to its new 30-year lease agreement. It was voted on and approved by the Denver Metropolitan Major League Baseball Stadium District.
