Windy day with fire danger – 01/25/18
Today: Be prepared – we’ll be dealing with high fire danger today! Red Flag Warnings extend into southern El Paso, Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas and Baca Counties, running this morning until the afternoon. In these areas, we have all the right ingredients in place that elevate that fire risk: low relative humidity levels, dry fuels and strong winds. As a result, we have a wind alert level one as we could get gusts into the 30s, even 40s. Highs today will be above-average, reaching the 60s for most. We’ll have a lot of high clouds moving in today.
Tonight: Overnight, it will still be GUSTY! We’ve hoisted a wind alert level one; however, we can’t rule out gusts into the 50s! Lows drop to the 20s. It will be frigid stepping outdoors when you factor in the wind, so bundle up. Tonight and into tomorrow, we have chances for some light mountain snow. We even could see a few sprinkles in Teller County, but the chances for that are extremely small.
Extended: Winds start to settle down tomorrow by midday and into the afternoon. Highs tomorrow will be cooler thanks to a morning cold front. We’ll be mild this weekend with relatively quiet weather. Temperatures warm to the 50s and 60s by Monday. Next Wednesday offers our next chance for some unsettled weather and rain and snow.
