Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Warm & Breezy – 5/1/2021
Overview: We’re tracking a warm start to the weekend, but more cold air and precipitation is on the way!
Today: Partly cloudy, breezy, and very warm with conditions becoming favorable for the spread of wildfires over parts of eastern Colorado this afternoon. The wind will increase to 10 to 25 mph with stronger gusts over the far eastern plains this afternoon, and while it will still be breezy at times near the mountains, the wind shouldn’t be quite as strong.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, breezy, and mild for much of the night with temperatures holding in the 50s for many areas for most of the night. A cold front will cause a brief period of gusty, northerly wind as it rolls over the area late, and it may result in some patchy low clouds over the Palmer Divide by morning. Eventually some areas on the higher terrain around the Pikes Peak Region will fall into the 40s, with 30s over the high country and high mountain valleys.
Sunday: Breezy and cooler with increasing clouds and afternoon showers and thunderstorms becoming likely around the Pikes Peak Region. High temperatures should reach the 60s and 70s for the plains with 50s over the mountains before showers develop and start helping to cool the air again.
Extended: Much colder Monday and Tuesday with areas of rain and thunder over the plains, and some wet snow at times over the mountains and the Palmer Divide. Several inches of wet snow could accumulate over our local mountain communities and the Palmer Divide Sunday night and Monday, mainly on the cooler surfaces, and the higher you live the more likely accumulating snow will be. Although some wet snow could also be seen around Colorado Springs it doesn’t appear likely there would be significant impacts to travel besides reduced visibility and wet roadways. Scattered showers and possibly some thunderstorms are also possible Tuesday & Wednesday as the air slowly warms. Drier and warmer weather is expected Thursday through Saturday.
