Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Windy, Colder Air Coming – 11/7/2020

Overview:  The wind will continue to blow as colder air nears the area. We’re tracking three, fast-moving waves this week that will keep us windy, cool the air, and bring precipitation to primarily the mountains along the Continental Divide. Although we aren’t expecting heavy precipitation over eastern Colorado this week, it’s possible that some areas could receive brief bursts of rain and/or snow.

Today:  The clouds will likely be more prevalent this morning than this afternoon, but we’ll see some throughout the day. Many areas will be breezy to windy at times, but the air will remain warm for this time of year with high temperatures in the 60s and 70s for most areas, higher elevations in the mountains will remain in the 50s. Scattered rain and snow showers will be possible mainly west of the Continental Divide today.

Tonight:  An upper level wave will increase the snow over the Continental Divide this evening and then spread clouds, rain and snow showers to the eastern mountains and immediately adjacent plains sometime after midnight. Many areas will be very windy at times through the night and High Wind Watches and Warnings are in effect for parts of our area. Although precipitation looks to remain brief over the eastern mountains and immediately adjacent plains, localized bursts of snow could briefly whiten cooler surfaces, and possibly some roadways along and west of I-25 by dawn.

Sunday:  Isolated showers may hold together over the plains east of the I-25 corridor early in the morning, but these will be spotty and nature and more likely to produce rain than snow. Any morning rain and snow showers should end quickly from west to east with a mostly sunny sky the rest of the day. The afternoon will be windy and cooler with high temperatures in the 50s and 60s for the plains, mainly 40s over the mountains.

Extended:  The workweek looks cooler with high temperatures in the 40s and 50s for the plains for much of the week. Monday should be partly cloudy and breezy to windy at times as another upper level wave approaches the area. This wave should bring another shot of snow to primarily the mountains along the Continental Divide Monday and Monday night, but we cannot rule out at least some spotty rain and/or snow showers reaching the eastern mountains and the I-25 corridor too late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon looks mostly sunny, breezy, and cool.  More wind as another wave brings snow to the mountains along the Continental Divide Wednesday and Wednesday night. Again, it appears the precipitation will be spotty at best along the I-25 corridor Wednesday night into Thursday morning if it develops at all. Dry starting Thursday afternoon with periods of mountain wave clouds and wind likely as we head into a warmer start to next weekend.
