Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – More Rain Likely – 8/29/2020

Overview: Low-level moisture behind the recent cold front will keep thunderstorms going over the area on Saturday before some drier, hotter air returns briefly. Next week will feature cold fronts that will bring wind and significantly cooler air to the area at times.

Today: Partly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. Stronger storms long and west of the I-25 corridor will be capable of producing bursts of heavy rain, frequent lightning, generally small hail, and gusty wind, and should a stronger storm interact with one of the local burn scars flash flooding could occur. While severe weather isn’t likely with most storms today, any stronger storms over the southeastern plains could briefly produce some larger hail and damaging wind gusts. High temperatures will reach the 70s and 80s for most areas, but some mountain communities will spend much of the day in the 60s.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms will drift east, weaken, and eventually end over the plains with partly cloudy conditions for the rest of the night. Low temperatures will dip into the 50s to lower 60s for the plains with 40s for our local mountain communities and the high mountain valleys.

Sunday: Mostly sunny in the morning, then partly cloudy with a chance for isolated, generally weak showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. The air will be drier and warmer with high temperatures in the 80s and 90s for the plains, 70s to lower 80s for the mountains and mountain valleys.

Extended: Another cold front will arrive on Monday knocking temperatures back into the 70s for the plains, kicking up the wind, and probably supporting and uptick in the showers and thunderstorms into Monday night. Tuesday looks cool again with storms less likely. Wednesday should be breezy and warmer, but Thursday should be windy and cooler again. We’re on the “kiddie-coaster” with regard to temperatures this week which is just a sign that fall isn’t too far away!
