Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Mostly Dry & Hot – 8/8/2020

Overview: Moisture associated with the summer monsoon looks to be scant over the state for several days. Additionally, the moisture in the lower levels of the atmosphere that supported the strong to severe thunderstorms earlier this week has drained away from the mountains. Combined with very warm air aloft we look to be hot, and for much of the next week not terribly wet.

Today: Mostly sunny this morning, then partly cloudy and breezy at times with high temperatures in the 80s and 90s along the I-25 corridor, 90s to near 100 for the plains, and 70s and 80s for our local mountain communities and high mountain valleys. Isolated, weak showers may develop over and near the mountains, but we expect they will only produce brief showers or a few sprinkles, maybe a crack of thunder, some shade, and some cool, gusty wind.

Tonight: Any weak showers will end this evening then mostly clear with low temperatures in the 50s and 60 for the plains with 40s to lower 50s over our local mountain communities and most of the high mountain valleys.

Sunday: Mostly sunny in the morning, then partly cloudy, breezy at times and hot again with high temperatures in the 80s and 90s along the I-25 corridor, 90s to lower 100s for the plains, and 70s and 80s for our local mountain communities and high mountain valleys. Isolated, weak showers may develop again over and near the mountains but like Saturday we’re not expecting much rain.

Extended: A weak cold front will take the edge off of the heat and increase the low-level moisture a little Monday and Tuesday, so although showers and thunderstorms still look to be few and far between, those that do develop might have a little better luck producing at least brief downpours. The air looks drier again Wednesday and Thursday so chances for rain don’t look very good and many areas will be hot.
