Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Mostly Warm Weekend! – 2/29/20
Overview: Most of the weekend looks warm and dry for eastern Colorado, but the next cold front will be bringing colder air and snow to the high country Sunday afternoon and probably to eastern Colorado Sunday night into early Monday. The early part of the week will again be chilly with warmer air moving in for the latter half of the week.
Today: The sky won't be as clear today with a mixture of clouds and sun through the afternoon. We expect many areas to be breezy to windy at times with high temperatures reaching the 50s and 60s along the I-25 corridor and possibly the lower 70s possible for the far southeastern plains. Our local mountains and mountain valleys will have a mixture of 40s to lower 50s this afternoon.
Tonight: Partly cloudy and breezy at times over and near the mountains with low temperatures in the 20s and 30s. Some snow will begin to develop over the mountains along and west of the Continental Divide where some light accumulations are expected over the higher peaks and passes.
Extended: Most of Sunday will be partly cloudy, breezy to windy at times and warm for eastern Colorado, but colder air and snow will begin moving over the high country and by very late in the afternoon scattered rain and snow showers may develop over and near our local mountain areas as well. A period of snow and wind appears likely to move over more of eastern Colorado Sunday night into early Monday morning with snowfall accumulations of 1"- 4" possible on the higher terrain along and west of I-25 possibly slowing traffic some for the Monday morning commute. A second surge of cold air could cause scattered snow showers to develop again over primarily the Pikes Peak Region late Monday night into early Tuesday morning. High temperatures on Monday and Tuesday only look to reach the 30s and 40s, we may have some patchy low clouds and it will also be breezy/windy at times. We're likely to have wind and clouds for the rest of the week, but high temperatures should warm into the 50s and 60s starting Wednesday with some 70s possibly returning to parts of eastern Colorado by late in the week or early next weekend.
