Marty’s Friday Evening Forecast – Warm Weekend Ahead! – 1/31/2020
Overview: We’re expecting a much warmer weekend with periods of cloud cover and wind. A strong and very cold storm should impact the area early next week bringing many of us another chance for snow.
Tonight: Partly cloudy with decreasing wind and quickly cooling temperatures. Most areas should fall into the 20s tonight but over and near the mountains the air may begin warming prior to dawn. By daybreak, some areas near the higher terrain may have warmed into the 30s.
Saturday: We expect to have some mountain wave clouds and cirrus clouds filtering the sun at times through the day and some areas will occasionally be a bit breezy with wind speeds of 10 to 20 mph possible. The air overhead will continue to warm so regardless of the potential for some clouds and wind we expect all areas will warm nicely with mainly 60s for the plains and 50s over our local mountain areas.
Extended: We will continue to warm on Sunday with afternoon temperatures in the 60s and 70s, but we also look to be a bit windier and we may still have some mountain wave clouds over the area. We are tracking a strong, very cold storm that will begin to affect the area on Monday. Initially, we expect increasing clouds and colder air Monday morning with increasing chances for snow as the day progresses. Snow could last into Monday night when travel conditions will probably be most difficult for many of us. Scattered, mainly light snow showers might linger into Tuesday and with very cold air in place could keep roads slick at times. The other big story early next week will be the chilly air we mentioned with afternoon temperatures only in the teens and 20s on Tuesday and low temperatures in the single digits above and below zero Tuesday night. We should remain dry and warm slowly starting Wednesday. There's also a chance that a quick moving cold front may clip the area late Thursday or Thursday night and bring at least scattered snow showers to the mountains and immediately adjacent plains. We'll likely be windy at times through the end of the week.
