Strong Winds Fuel High Fire Danger Through Tuesday
Today: Slightly warmer temperatures are expected today with highs getting into the 50s and 60s, but those pleasant temperatures come with a catch: WIND! It will be pretty windy this afternoon with windspeeds ranging from 20-30MPH and gusts ranging from 40-60MPH. When combined with dry conditions across the region, this windy weather is creating a high fire danger environment. RED FLAG WARNINGS go into effect at noon and will continue through 7PM. It will stay windy overnight, which will help to keep overnight low a bit milder than they have been...
Tomorrow: Even warmer, but also even windier! Red Flag Warnings have already been issued for Monday as gusty winds are expected to once again plague the region. With gusts, again, between 40 and 60MPH possible, blowing dust could cause reduced visibilities for many in southern Colorado. High temperatures will be in the 60s and 70s making for an above average start to the work week.
Extended: Another windy day is expected on Tuesday, with the gustiest conditions expected to accompany a cold front that will push across the region during the late afternoon and evening. Ongoing high country snow will spread in behind the cold front in the form of a rain/snow mix, transitioning to mostly snow overnight. 1-3" looks to be about all we can expect along the Palmer Divide, with a trace to 2" elsewhere... so not a lot of snow, but windblown snow could reduce visibilities Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning (when the heaviest bands are expected to push through). Snow should end by drivetime Wednesday morning with drier and warmer weather returning on Thursday.
