Heavy mountain precipitation continues as I-25 corridor rain chances increase

Abundant moisture from the Desert Southwest, along with strong upper-level winds, is again promoting widespread heavy rain this afternoon. A few strong thunderstorms are not out of the question, particularly closer to the New Mexico border. A few showers and an isolated thunderstorm will also be possible along the interstate and out to the Plains through the overnight hours, as the upper-level storm system begins to move closer to our area. With extensive cloud cover, overnight lows will again be very mild for late October standards, only dropping into the 50s.

Precipitation won't be as widespread on Friday, although a few thunderstorms will be possible by the afternoon. A severe thunderstorm is possible, with better chances towards the New Mexico border. Otherwise, look for partly cloudy skies with daytime highs in the 70s and 80s!

Friday will be our last warm day as a cold front sweeps across our area Saturday morning. The front, along with ample moisture sticking around, will increase the odds of heavy rain through much of the day. Daytime highs will fall back into the 50s and low 60s. Widespread rain will again be possible for the latter half of the weekend. Colder air will drop snow elevations to pass levels, and a few snowflakes may mix in across higher-elevation communities. Early next week will turn drier, with temperatures warming back up close to seasonal averages.
