Tony Award winner sings at Easterseals Gala
An incredible woman with an amazing story was here in Colorado Friday night at the Easterseals of Colorado 'Season of Lights' Gala.
Earlier this year, Ali Stroker made history as the first woman in a wheelchair to win a Tony Award for her performance in Rogers and Hammerstein's 'Oklahoma!'.
"This award is for every kid who is watching tonight, who has a disability, who has a limitation or a challenge, who has been waiting to see themselves represented in this arena. You are," Ali told a packed house at the Tony's.
KRDO'S own Dani Fried emcee'd the gala and interviewed Ali before the program started. Ali had a message for the young ones in the audience suffering with disabilities.
"Keep going, don't give up, figure out the things that you're really good at and put your attention on that. Don't worry about the things you can't do. You can't change those. Keep going and work really hard," Ali told Dani Fried.
Maddie Olson, a camper at the Rocky Mountain Village Camp, was honored with the Easterseals Colorado Lily Award. She also had a message for anyone living with a disability.
"Just don't let it define who you are. Just try to accept what your challenges are and go from there. Go to camp and you'll see what it can do to change your life," Maddie said.
