Strong Thunderstorms Possible Sunday Afternoon
Tonight: Isolated showers possible this evening but the overall coverage and severity of the precipitation will be low. Mostly cloudy skies with low temperatures to 51 degrees in Colorado Springs and 53 in Pueblo.
Sunday: Partly cloudy during the morning hours, but quickly turning mostly cloudy during the afternoon as a strong cold front will be crossing through Colorado Springs by about 3pm. A few concerns here, the chance for severe thunderstorms along I-70 and the eastern Colorado plains, strong straight line wind gusts, and snow above 7500ft. Thunderstorms will likely develop during the afternoon with the chance for small to moderate sized hail, frequent lightning, and outflow wind gusts to 60mph. The exact placement of the thunderstorms in uncertain, but the most likely areas to see the stronger storms are across HWY 24 and HWY 94 in eastern El Paso County, along I-70 in Limon and Burlington, and through Cheyenne/Kiowa Counties. I'd still be weather aware living in Colorado Springs as it's possible rapid intensification of a thunderstorm could cause some problems. The severe storms will push east of Colorado by about 8pm, but widespread rain/snow showers will then begin for the I-25 corridor and west.
Extended: Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for Teller County through the day Monday as Woodland Park could see about 3-6in of snow accumulation. That precipitation will fall as rain in Colorado Springs and could briefly change over to snow in Monument. High temperatures Monday will struggle to reach into the 40s in Colorado Springs.
