Scattered evening showers and thunderstorms
Tonight: Isolated thunderstorms possible in El Paso county till approximately 10pm. The likelihood of severe thunderstorms is low but not zero, with the main threats being lightning and brief but heavy rain. The showers and thunderstorms will track west to east through the evening hours, gradually exiting off into Kansas and Nebraska overnight. Temperatures staying mild, in the high 40s and low 50s in central/southern Colorado.
Sunday: Morning sunshine turning partly cloudy by early afternoon. Temperatures slightly warmer than this afternoon, back into the mid 70s in Colorado Springs and low 80s along HWY 50. Can’t rule out a few isolated afternoon convective showers, but the vast majority of the moisture is looking to stay in northern Colorado. Winds look to be the main weather story, especially in southern Colorado with gusts to 40mph in Walsenburg, Trinidad, Alamosa, and surrounding areas. This and low relative humidities has prompted the national weather service to issue Fire weather warnings for those locations starting at noon.
Extended: Daily high temperatures cool slightly through Wednesday, but still near average for this time in May. Daily afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms will again be possible through the midweek forecast.
