Sunday rain showers with elevated fire weather next week

Tonight: Mostly clear skies this evening along the I-25/hwy 50 corridors as the scattered afternoon rain showers have already fizzled out. Staying dry during the overnight hours with temperatures into the high 30s in Colorado Springs and low 40s in Pueblo with light winds.

Sunday: Partly cloudy skies to start out Sunday with temperatures warming quickly into the low 70s by early afternoon in Colorado Springs and even low 80s in Pueblo and across the southeast. Gradually becoming mostly cloudy during the early afternoon with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible after 1pm. The overall severity of these storms will be low, but it’s still a good idea to get any outdoor chores or activities done during the morning hours.

Fire weather warnings are in effect for the San Luis valley starting at 1 pm as critics fire weather conditions are likely.
The elevated fire weather concerns will push into next week as central/southern colorado will be 10-15 degrees above seasonal high-temperature averages, combined with low relative humidities and breezy afternoon winds. Currently, a small grassland fire is burning near Cheeseman reservoir. The current size is estimated at 59 acres, stay tuned for updates.
