Body of missing man found at Cherry Creek Reservoir

AURORA, Colo. (KRDO) -- After a week of searching, crews finally found the body of a man who went missing in Cherry Creek State Park.

On Saturday, May 9, crews with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife and South Metro Fire Rescue were called to the Cherry Creek State Reservoir after a man disappeared after being separated from an inner tube he was being towed on behind a boat.

CPW says the victim was not wearing a life jacket.

On Saturday, May 14, CPW says the 29-year-old victim was found at the bottom of the reservoir. Officials say he was found using a Marine Sonic Technology tow-fish sonar device, towed underwater just feet above the lake bottom.

The victim was then brought to the surface and turned over to the Arapahoe County Coroner. The coroner will determine the cause of death and identity the victim.

“Everybody involved didn’t give up, no matter what the circumstances were and this is a great result of that,” said Jason Trujillo, Cherry Creek State Park Manager in a press release. “We offer our deepest condolences and hope that this recovery will bring a little comfort to the family and friends as they mourn the loss of their loved one.”

According to CPW, this is the second drawing in Colorado this year. In 2021, there were 22 drownings in the state.
