Name of late El Paso County Deputy, 6 others, added to Colorado’s Law Enforcement Memorial

GOLDEN, Colo. (KRDO) -- Friday, the names of seven fallen officers were added to the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial in Golden, Colo. That included El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Peery, who died in the line of duty in August 2022.

During the ceremony, the names of four officers who died in 2021 and 2022 were added alongside three historical Colorado line-of-duty deaths.

The ceremony started with the families of the officers being escorted in. Dep. Peery's family was not in attendance because they are still grieving and thought it would be too hard.

He left behind two children and a wife.

El Paso County Sheriff Roybal was in attendance though to honor his fallen deputy.

"This is the hardest thing as a sheriff or police chief or police officer that you have to do is lay to rest a brother or sister. Today we celebrate Deputy Andrew Peery who gave his life for his community. We remember those who have sacrificed their life in the line of duty and we remember those of us who continue the fight knowing the risk that faces us," said Roybal.

With the addition of these seven names, there are now 349 officers' names engraved on the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial.
