UPDATE: Creekwalk project taking shape in southwest Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A retail development that started two years ago and was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic is gradually taking shape but its completion date remains uncertain.

The Creekwalk project is going up behind the McDonald's at the intersection of South Nevada Avenue and Cheyenne Road, just west of the Southgate shopping area.

Included in the project are a variety of shops and businesses, as well as a redesign of Cheyenne Creek through the area to make it more of a public gathering spot.

The project is the latest in a series of Urban Renewal efforts along the South Nevada corridor; old motels and vacant buildings were demolished just north of Creekwalk to make room for restaurants such as Smashbuger, Chick-fil-A, Tokyo Joe's and other businesses.

Fuzzy's Taco Shop is among the the future Creekwalk tenants.

Neighbors said that they generally like the project but have concerns about increased traffic. A traffic signal was installed at the intersection of Cheyenne Road and Roanoke Street, which will serve as the main entrance to Creekwalk.

Some neighbors also are concerned about apartment rentals increasing, as the project has spurred construction of apartments and other housing in the area.

While some of the incoming businesses list October openings, Urban Renewal officials should know next week about the timetable for completing the project.
