Coach Prime and the Buffs practicing at Fountain-Fort Carson High School to open fall football camp

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- The shades, the cowboy hat and the personality are in southern Colorado this week with Coach Prime and CU football practicing this week at Fountain-Fort Carson High School and bunking up at UC Colorado Springs to open up their fall camp.

The team also visited the Air Force Academy earlier this week. Head Coach Deion "Prime" Sanders said he was impressed by the discipline shown by the Falcons' football program and cadets.

"Our kids talked about our disciplines, and they talked about their disciplines, and we ain't like them back there. Unbelievable."

As camp continues, the focus remains on the upcoming season. Colorado is coming off a 3-9 year, but expectations inside the program are still high.

"The expectation is to win," Sanders said. "That's the only reason we're here."

The season also carries extra meaning for Sanders. This point last season he was recovering from bladder cancer which hindered his energy levels on the sideline. Now, he's back to his normal, carefree ways on the practice field and is still cancer free.

"I'm thankful for everything I've gone through," Sanders said. "It's been a tremendous journey, but it's going to be a good one."

As the Buffs continue camp at Fountain-Fort Carson, they're hoping the experience helps prepare them for a successful season.

Their first test of the 2026 season is Sept. 3 on the road versus Georgia Tech.
