LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) — The East Fork fire is still at 1,680 acres and is now 88% contained. It hasn’t grown since Monday. There was minimal fire activity Tuesday, according to fire officials.

Firefighters will continue to reinforce control lines and mop-up hotspots. The fire is burning 12 miles southeast of Trinidad and 1.5 miles north of the Colorado/New Mexico border.

Lake Dorothy State Wildlife Area remains closed and is currently being used to stage resources.

69 total personnel are fighting the fire including ground and aerial support.

Moving forward, crews will take risk management actions and use suppression activities that guide the fire into natural barriers. Crews are also minimizing the potential impacts of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing, proper personal hygiene, and regular cleaning.

The fire started August 22nd from lightning.
