COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department is warning drivers of road closures due to a water main break Tuesday.

At 11:30 a.m., CSPD reported the intersection of Meadowland Blvd. and N Academy Blvd. is closed in all four directions.

Drivers are told to find alternate routes.

According to Colorado Springs Utilities, the 36-inch water main has a pinhole fracture. Crews are working to repair the damage.

Traffic reopened later Tuesday afternoon at the intersection except for two southbound lanes along N. Academy Blvd. at the intersection. Drivers are warned while there will be slowdowns, the intersection is fully open.

According to Springs Utilities, the intersection should be fully fixed by Thursday.

Repairs will cause all lanes southbound on Academy to be closed through Thursday. This is due to safety concerns.

Colorado Springs Utilities says that detours will be set to guide traffic around the work zone. The detour will start at Union and Academy and take drivers down Austin Bluffs, according to CSU.

Due to the affected area being near Colorado Springs fire station 10, crews were able to quickly aid in the initial response to the incident.

The utility company said it's unclear if the water main break has impacted nearby residents and neighborhoods, however, the company doesn't think anyone is impacted.

According to Springs Utilities, two other water main breaks are not related. The company clarified that those two incidents are more "pressure issues" rather than full breaks. Those issues are affecting the area of Flintridge and Montbello.

The utility company also said those two incidents are a city issue, and the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to that.
